Senior Adults

Trinity SingersThe vision of Senior Adult Ministry at Trinity is to provide an atmosphere to develop our minds, bodies & souls to be faithful servants to Jesus Christ.

  • To recognize the importance of Christian fellowship and spiritual growth as we grow older.
  • To keep our minds & bodies active and alert by participating in study, work, and leisure.
  • To be a friend to someone and ease their worries by showing a loving concern for one another.
  • To reach out and be of service to our church and in our community.

Weekday Activities

Trinity Seniors are active all through the week! Some of our weekday activities include

  • Soup and Salad – a $5 meal provided Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM in 1st floor Fellowship Hall (near the large parking lot)
  • Bridge, Pool, and other Games - Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM in the 1st floor Scout Room, Fireside Room, and Pool Room.
  • Rummikub – Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM in the 1st floor Small Parlor. New participants are always welcome!
  • China Painters – Wednesday from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM in the 1st floor Craft Room. New participants are always welcome. This is “fine” china and you will need your own supplies.
  • TEMPO Fitness Program “For Active Older Adults” – Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8-9 AM in the Fellowship Hall. This class is taught by Suanne Ferguson.
  • Trinity Singers – Rehearse on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM in the 1st floor Choir Room.

Special Activities

PACESETTERS - Meets the 4th Tuesday at 12 Noon in the 1st floor Fellowship Hall. This is a dinner meeting and program for Trinity UMC Seniors and guests to get together to enjoy food, fellowship, and entertainment.  RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. Cost: $6 per person. Once you join, you are placed on a calling list for reservations each month. 

Lunch Bunch - A monthly outing to local or nearby restaurants. Reservations required for van seating. Cost: your meal; gasoline donation is appreciated. Look for details in Tidings.

Day Trips - All trips originate in the large parking lot (between Trinity UMC and Dawson Memorial Baptist Church). Look for a Trinity Van. Look for details in Tidings.

Trinity Travelers - take 1-2 trips per year. Travel available to Trinity UMC members and others. For more information, Contact: Amy Lewis, Director of Senior Adult Ministries or Amy Mezzell, Program Staff Assistant.

Ministry Service Opportunities

Heart to Heart - Opportunity to connect with members who are shut-in or homebound, or in retirement, assisted living or nursing homes. Level 1: monthly phone/card contact.  Level II visitation. Support and training provided by Director of Senior Adult Ministries.

Grandparents on Loan - Serve as a “grandparent” to children in need of grandparent support. Children/family screened prior to placement. Contact Mrs. Butch Smith for more information.

Health and Wellness Coordinator - Assists with organizing and facilitating flu vaccinations, health fairs, nutrition classes, health information, speakers for lunch and learn.

Senior Event Host/Hostess - Welcome seniors to Tuesday/Thursday day events, assist with coffee service, take up money for Soup and Salad.

Ministry Travel Coordinator - Assist with locating/planning day trips of interest to persons age 50+. Assist with telephone contacts.

Van Drivers - Get approved by TUMC as a van driver. It takes less than 1 hour. Available to drive small groups.

Bible Study Leader - Lead or assist with short term study focused on helping people with aging parents, acceptance of age, helping people God’s Way. Meets regularly with Director of Senior Adult Ministries for training and feedback.

Education Coordinator - Works closely with Director of Senior Adult Ministries to plan educational opportunities for seniors/families. Assists with contacts and follow-up.

Support Groups Coordinator - Lay person to work with Director of Senior Adult Ministries to promote support groups, memory loss groups, grief support groups…and facilitate participation.
